Chappell of Bond Street is delighted to continue hosting the second full season of Lunchtime Conservatoire Concerts featuring some of the very best pianists from our London conservatoires.
The final recital in the winter mini-season is on Wednesday March 11th at 1pm where we feature Kentaro Nagai. Kentaro plays an exciting programme of 20th Century Russian Piano Music.
Shostakovitch: Prelude and Fugue in f minor
Balakirev: Sonata in Bb minor
Scriabin: 5 Preludes Opus 74
Kentaro Nagai, born in 1986, currently studies piano at the Royal College of Music in his fourth year undergraduate programme with the Scholarship funded by the RCM. His musical training began at the age of four largely influenced by his mother who is an opera singer and a lieder. He made a concerto debut at the age of eight after wining a number of competitions in Japan. Then at the age of 14, he moved to Canada where he received several music awards and scholarships including the Canmore Mayor’s Award for the Honourable Citizen.
He has given numerous performances in Japan, Canada and Europe at such venues as the Banff Centre in Canada, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Steinway Hall, Cadogan Hall, National Gallery, and Bulgaria Hall (Sofia). Kentaro also appeared as a soloist for concertos and most recently he performed with Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. He benefited from participating several masterclasses given by such pianists as William Fong, Stephen Hough, John Lill, Ronan O’Hora and Kathryn Stott.
Kentaro has previously studied with Hiroko Hamaka and Suzanne Ruberg-Gordon and currently studies with Gordon Fergus-Thompson, and he will precede his studies in Postgraduate at the Royal College of Music from September 2009.
This performance is free of charge and will take place in the Recital Room of Yamaha Artist Services Europe (London), situated within the historic Piano Hall at Chappell of Bond Street’s West End store.
