Each of the Elements books takes an element of music as its focus, in this case texture and timbre, and offers a series of chapters that use that element as a path into different genres and areas of repertoire. Each book contains chapters on Classical, Electronic, Experimental, Film and Television, Jazz and Blues, Rock and Pop, and World Music. Each chapter provides 12 progressively arranged lessons that offer a combination of listening exercises, composing projects and performance opportunities. Each lesson gives you a teacher's page and a facing pupil's page which can be photocopied and handed out to your students.
This adds up to more than 400 carefully targeted and interlinked lessons. There are also tips for good practice with music technology. The design of the five books will support you while you move between different genres - even those you felt less confident in before!
The accompanying CDs and CD-ROMs provide all the audio tracks and MIDI files you need for these lessons, along with film clips, images and audio loops for particular lessons. You will also find all the pupil's pages saved on the CD-ROM as PDFs, so that you can print them out directly.
Elements has been carefully written to enable you to build upon what your Year 7 pupils learnt at Key Stages 1 and 2. It provides an inexhaustible wealth of lesson plans and ideas for adapting and personalising. It also shows how to use Key Stage 3 to build a secure foundation for potential GCSE pupils.
The Texture & Timbre book can be used on its own or in combination with the rest of the Elements suite.
