Thanks for the question. In our experience, the strings we've fitted to the FG820 are excellent and they should suit the vast majority of guitarists.
String types and guages can be quite a personal choice however, and it may be that the person you're buying for chooses a different gauge or a specific brand of strings when they next change them (if they already play acoustic guitar, they may already have a favourite brand/set).
