Guitar Slides

A guitar slide may be used with a guitar to produce an almost vocal sound with the strings. Slides may be used with the guitar in the standard hold or horizontally on the lap. One or more strings are pressed with the slide but not so hard as to bring the string down onto the frets. This enables glissando, bent notes and vibrato to be easily achieved. A slide may be used across all the strings simultaneously (open tuning often being used in this case) or just on a single string, giving the option of playing fretted chords on the other strings. Our high quality slides are made by the Jim Dunlop company and are designed to be worn around a finger (usually the little or ring finger). They come in various gauges to cater for different finger sizes. An important aspect of a slide is its hardness. We offer glass and brass, which are of medium hardness and therefore adaptable to a variety of needs. We also offer steel slides, which are harder, emphasise the upper harmonics and give a more sustained sound, making them ideal for soloing.
