This book enables children to keep singing once they grow out of singing the animal names. It teaches them to sing sol-fa with the piano.
Through singing, playing and transposing students will establish a strong foundation for the use of sol-fa.
Using these exercises allows children to switch seamlessly from singing the animal names to singing sol-fa. This can happen as early as midway through Dogs and Birds Book 2, if the child is ready.
The benefits of sol-fa include improved sight-singing, sight-reading, improvisation and singing, as well as the understanding of scales and chords.
The pieces are short and based on a question and answer phrasing.
By playing these melodies in different keys students will begin to hear and feel the different colours of the keys.
The material in this book can also be used by older students, who have not been brought up with the Dogs and Birds approach but who wish to learn to sing sol-fa.
