Two 16th-century motets for Christmas for SATB Choir. Although composed for the Nativity, these beautiful and evocative pieces could be performed successfully at any time of the year. The glorious part-writing will enable any choir, or vocal quartet, to display great musicality and warmth with the subtly moving harmonies and wonderfully inventive contrapuntal lines. No dynamics are included to allow each choir to create their own unique performance. The acoustics of a church or cathedral will enhance the magnificence of the music, but they could equally be performed in any venue and for any audience. ___________________________________________________________________________ Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) was a church musician all his life and was the greatest Spanish renaissance composer of his day. Much of his music was published during his lifetime and he wrote exclusively Latin sacred music. He worked in Italy and Spain and 'wrote in a serious and devotional style, often responding to the texts with dramtaic word-painting.' Cristobal de Morales (c.1500-1553) was recognised as one of the most important figures in early 16th-century Spanish music. He worked in Spain and Rome, as both singer and composer, and wrote exclusively for the church. _________________________________________________________________________ Difficulty: Medium 8 pages / A4 format / Paperback Duration: c.4 minutes (Victoria) / c.2-3 minutes (Morales)
