Early French Minatures for the period from 1650 to 1750 was the period of the great Clavecin or Cembalo players in the France of Louis the 14th. The music of these instruments was court music, and its pupose was to entertain the Kings and his Courtiers. It consisted mainly of dance and character pieces to which the composers frequently gave amusing names! All of the composers included in this volume were music teachers, ballet masters, operatic composers or organists to Louis the 14th. This gay yet sophisticated music influenced the style of all contemporary European composers.
