As a producer, radio host and DJ, Sir Spyro’s Grime accolades span well over a decade. After picking up turntables at his local youth club at just age 10, Spyro began playing shows well before he was old enough to open a bank account, instead investing his earnings straight back into buying records.
Spyro went on to travel the world as a Tinchy Stryder’s tour DJ before rekindling his passion for producing in 2012, in turn discovering that his grime productions had the capacity to travel on their own.
As a producer, his signature ‘Sounds of the Sir’ beat tag has developed into one of Grime’s quintessential seals of approval and yet his sound remains markedly varied. From a Dancehall-infused Lady Chann club anthem, to Stormzy’s smash hit ‘Big For your Boots’, Sir Spyro remains one of Grime’s most trusted hit-makers. Indeed, while he continues to work with both Grime heavyweights and newcomers, he is also an esteemed remixer for artists such as Jorja Smith and Ed Sheeran, with his remix of the latter’s track ‘Take Me Back to London’ helping to land the song at No.1.
When Spyro isn’t working with artists, he’s hosting them on radio via his renowned ‘Grime Show’. After launching it at Rinse FM in 2005, he spent the next twelve years hosting generations of pioneering MCs and producers on the station, before moving across to a primetime spot at Radio 1xtra in 2017. Spyro now hosts the biggest Grime show on radio, and is known for his impeccable mixing and track selection inspired by the likes of Shy FX and DJ EZ.
In 2019, Spyro has embarked on an Australian tour, contributed to the Top Boy album (inspired by the Netflix series and curated by Drake and OVO), and recently produced Stormzy’s hard-hitting ‘Sounds of Skeng’ single.
