The b1 Upright Piano

An upright piano for the next generation

We took everything we learned from more than a century of crafting fine pianos to create an instrument to inspire the next generation of players.

The result is an elegant, compact piano with a responsive keyboard and a clear, resonant tone. Whether you’re a beginner, a budding virtuoso or accomplished musician, the b1 Upright is an absolute joy to play.

What makes the b1 Upright Piano special?

The b1 takes its inspiration from our famous U Series pianos with soundboards and ribs crafted from premium tonewoods and fine spruce. The result is an affordable piano whose tone echoes that of our high-end instruments.

Years of cutting-edge research helped us develop and refine our proprietary wood-drying process, resulting in back posts that maintain their shape, strength and resonance for years to come.

We were the first piano maker to use an advanced vacuum shield mold-casting technology called V-Pro to create a stronger, lighter, more durable frame. The b1 Upright features a full-perimeter frame cast to our exacting specifications at our Iwata Forge in Japan.

The b1 Upright's hammers are crafted from the finest materials and painstakingly sculpted to provide optimum tone, response and a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

Our master artisans at our Kakegawa piano workshop in Japan oversee the winding of pure copper and adjust the balance and tension of each bass string to the exacting standards and sound profile of the b1 Upright.

Often copied but never equaled, our patented aluminum action rail helps ensure the b1 Upright's key action is resistant to tiny fluctuations in humidity and temperature over time.
