We've had a brilliant, non-stop year here at Yamaha Music London - and it's all thanks to your support! Here's a brief recap of what we've been up the last 12 months...
We've welcomed more exciting artists to the Yamaha stage than ever before with our famous #SohoSessions playing host to every genre of music with rising stars including singer-songwriter JJ Rosa, trumpet player Matilda Lloyd, DJ Mollie Collins as well as music royalty Mo Pleasure and grime artist and A-list producer Sir Spyro.
The feel-good music vibes kept flowing as we went on the road with a packed festival lineup which included Love Supreme, The Soho Jazz Week, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, International Busking Day and BBC Introducing. A huge thanks to everyone who came along and made the events so memorable.
We love being in the heart of London's theatre district - and in 2019, we brought the West End into the store itself! We hosted the year's biggest smash-hit musicals with visits from the casts of Waitress, Mamma Mia and White Christmas all performing instore. The West End would be nothing without its army of talented musicians and we were delighted to host the bands from Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat, Hamilton and Book of Mormon.
It’s a privilege being able to support the new waves of artists emerging across London - though it's not been easy choosing winners of the competitions we've held instore! Gee Jay were the winners of our Funk It Up Thursdays competition, winning a prime slot at the Love Supreme festival. Our Summertime Sounds competition was won by singer/songwriter Owen Hughes who got to play at Wembley as a result!
Some of the events we look forward to the most are our Learn to Play Days. If you've never been to one, the premise is simple; no matter what your age or musical experience, turn up and our team of experienced and fully-qualified music teachers will give you an introductory music lesson on an instrument of your choice. A day full of chaotic brilliance, for us nothing tops those moments when someone who's never touched a piano, guitar or violin before, realises that, actually, they CAN play music - and the world gains an extra person making music.
We've given hundreds and hundreds of lessons across the years - and 2019 was no exception, introducing our new Learn to Play: Rock School day for teens. Learn to Play Days are always heavily subscribed so make sure you don’t miss out! The next Learn to Play weekend falls on 28th and 29th March 2020.
2020 already looks to be even more exciting at Yamaha Music London.
