Novello House - aka 152-160 Wardour Street - was originally built circa 1905 by the Novello & Co Ltd sheet music publishing company as their Central London base - what is now our Piano Hall was originally designed and built to show Novello's sheet music prints.
During the Great War of 1914-1918, many of Novello's staff went into service; many never returned. Novello & Co commissioned a dedication plaque in their memory. The plaque remained on display at Novello House until the mid-1970s (Novello & Co having vacated the premises in 1965).
Musuem of Soho volunteer Mark Brisenden recently led a campaign and research effort to restore the plaque to its original location within Novello House, now the home of Yamaha Music London.
The newly rehomed plaque was unveiled in a re-dedication ceremony on 29th July 2015, commemorating and remembering those Novello staff members who never made it home.
