Yamaha Music London gets a Funk makeover this June. We're searching for London’s funkiest act; whether you're a soloist, duo or band, we want you doing your funky thing with us. This June, we'll be showcasing the best new talent in our flagship London store and send the best through to our grand final with the chance to win a prize that money can’t buy - a gig on stage for the coveted Sunday 6:15pm slot at Love Supreme Jazz Festival 2019 this July. You won’t even need to bring any instruments - we have everything you could possibly desire and it’s all at your disposal.

How it works:


  • 2 Heats:
    • Heat 1: 13th June 2019, 6:30pm
    • Heat 2: 20th June 2019, 6:30pm
  • Final: 27th June 2019, 6:30pm
  • Each heat will see 3 to 4 bands and artists competing for their place in the final
  • All musicians (including accompanists) will play on Yamaha instruments, chosen on the day
  • There's no entry fee for the audience - bring your friends and family along to support you!

How to enter:

Competition Terms & Conditions

  1. Scope of these Terms and Conditions
    1. These Terms and Conditions apply to The Yamaha Music London Funk It Up Thursdays (“Competition”) as described below.
    2. This competition is held by Yamaha Music London (UK), 152-160 WARDOUR STREET, LONDON, W1F 8YA, United Kingdom.
    3. By submitting their entry to participate in this competition, entrants agree that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Competition – mechanism and prizes
    1. The Competition period is from 13th June 2019 to 27th June 2019
    2. Yamaha calls anyone residing in the United Kingdom of the age of 18 years and over to enter this competition. Yamaha employees and their family members, the agencies or anyone professionally connected with this Competition are not eligible for this competition.
    3. Participation mechanism and prizes
      Phase 1 – Entry Process:
      In order to participate, Entrants are asked to provide a link to an application video (“entry”) of them performing one (1) track (cover or own composition).
      Entrants must also enter their names, dates of birth, address and contact number in full. Entries must be made in accordance with the instructions on this submission page. Submissions will not be accepted by e-mail, post or other means not specified on the aforementioned website. Yamaha Music London cannot be held responsible for any entries not received due to technical problems.
    4. Phase 2 – Live Heats
      The Heats will consist of three live (3) performances by each act, maximum performance time fifteen (15) minutes per act. Heats will take place through June 2019. The performance of the heats will be evaluated by a judging panel.
      At least one Finalist will be selected for the Grand Final and announced on each Live Heat evening. The organisers reserve the right to choose a wildcard entry for the final.
    5. Phase 3 – Grand Final
      The Grand Final will be held on the 27th June 2019.
      The performance will be judged by a jury.
      The overall winner will be announced on that day winning the opportunity to perform at 6:15pm (with the performance finishing by 7:00pm) on Sunday 7th July 2019 at the Love Supreme Jazz Festival.
  3. Competition requirement
    1. Yamaha shall not be responsible for monitoring whether the entrants’ uploaded content, however Yamaha reserves the right to reject any content that Yamaha may consider to be illegal.
    2. Yamaha reserves the right, with or without cause, to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these Terms and Conditions. Yamaha may do so retroactively and recall the prize.
    3. By entering the competition, all entrants represent and warrant that their entry does not contain any so called samples and/or other copyright material owned by a third party, any personal rights, insults, copyright violations, trademark infringements.
    4. The entrant shall indemnify Yamaha on first demand from any claims by third parties due to the entrant’s contribution to illegal content.
  4. Execution
    1. No cash or alternative prizes available. Prizes are not transferable.
    2. The Finalists and the Winner will be announced on an official Yamaha Music London channel after each event. All reasonable endeavors will be made to contact these Entrants during this time to announce the dates of the following Phases.
  5. Disclaimer
    Yamaha shall not be liable for any failure to meet this Terms and Conditions where such failure is cause by any supervening circumstances amounting to force majeure. Such circumstances shall include, but shall not be limited to, technical problems, change of terms and conditions or decisions by platforms such as Facebook, severe weather conditions, fire, flood, war, earthquake, riots, industrial dispute, terrorism, acts of god, or events that, without fault of either party, render performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.
  6. Liability
    Notwithstanding mandatory law, Yamaha’s liability for compensation of damages shall be excluded or limited as defined in this number 6:
    1. Yamaha’s liability shall be unlimited regarding damage from deliberate or grossly negligent violation of duty by Yamaha or one of its legal representatives.
    2. Yamaha shall further be liable where the damage results from negligent violation of essential contractual duties. Essential contractual duties are all of those obligations, the fulfilment of which is a prerequisite for enabling the proper fulfilment of the contract in the first place and upon their compliance the contractual partner may normally trust. In this case Yamaha’s liability is, however, limited with regards to the amount, in accordance with the contractually typical foreseeable damage at the time of the conclusion of the contract.
    3. Yamaha’s liability shall not be excluded if the damage occurs from injury to life, body, or health which rests on a deliberate or negligent violation of duty by Yamaha or by one of its legal representatives or where Yamaha is subject to a mandatory legal liability, in particular liability in accordance with product liability law.
    4. As far as Yamaha’s liability is excluded or limited according to the above provisions, this also applies to the personal liability of Yamaha’s legal representatives, employees, staff, and proxies.
  7. Privacy
    Uses of personal data received by Yamaha in the course of the competition are subject to applicable laws and the privacy policy found on http://europe.yamaha.com/en/privacy_policy/.
    1. The following information will be collected by Yamaha for the purpose of administration and execution of the competition:
      • Name
      • Date of birth
      • Address
      • Phone number
    2. Entrants consent to being contacted by Yamaha via e-mail or telephone for the purpose of administrating the Competition and their names being published on Facebook and/or Yamaha websites.
    3. The collected data will be used only for the execution of this competition and deleted thereafter.
  8. Other
    1. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck out and the remaining provisions shall be enforced.
    2. These terms and conditions and any disputes or claims arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by the laws of England and participants agree that the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
