Guild D-55 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
First introduced in 1968 as a special-order, top-of-the-line acoustic guitar, the D-55 quickly earned acclaim, leading Guild to add it to the regular production line by 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on the The Smothers Brothers Show in the late 1960s, the Guild D-55 dreadnought acoustic guitar has grown in popularity and legacy over the decades.
One of the most anticipated returns of a Guild acoustic guitar, the reimagined 2017 Guild D-55 is back and better than ever. This premium USA-made acoustic guitar stays true to the high-end appointments of its 1968 predecessor, including a AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a high-quality nitrocellulose finish. Internal upgrades include scalloped Adirondack bracing and an improved dovetail neck joint, hand-fitted to create one of the lightest, loudest, and best-sounding dreadnought acoustic guitars in its class.
The Guild D-55 acoustic guitar features the brand’s iconic fully bound headstock, showcasing the Guild “Peak and Shield” inlay over a figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is fully bound and inlaid with Guild’s signature abalone and pearl “V-Blocks,” along with multi-line “railroad track” purfling on both bass and treble sides. The fingerboard is mounted on a premium all-mahogany neck with a striking walnut center seam running from heel to headstock, enhancing both strength and visual appeal. Finished in a hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer, this professional acoustic guitar delivers maximum resonance and tonal improvement over time. An L.R. Baggs pickup system is available as an option for acoustic-electric performance, and each D-55 includes a hand-signed certificate of authenticity and ships with Guild’s premium humidified hardshell case for ultimate protection.
